[Singapore] Safety policy

Your safety is our top priority. We’re enhancing our safety measures in line with the Singapore Online Criminal Harms Act and its Code of Practice.

1. Keep your chats on Carousell, and never take them to other platforms or channels. 

• • You are not allowed to share email addresses, QR codes and links when chatting with other users on Carousell because email addresses and links are the most common ways scammers lead users off the platform to steal their personal information.
  • You may share your mobile number if you have to coordinate meet-ups, but do so with caution, and only share it with Carousellers you trust. 
  • We have made exceptions in certain categories e.g. Services, because we understand that videos and calls may be needed, especially in urgent or complex cases like plumbing mishaps. These listings have a ‘WhatsApp’ button, through which you can contact the seller.

As a buyer

1. When dealing via meet-up, you must not pay before the meet-up. Only pay at the meet-up, ideally after checking the item. Alternatively, you can pay using the ‘Buy’ button, so your money is held by Carousell via its third-party payment service providers. 
2. If you’re receiving your order via delivery or digitally, you must only pay your seller via the ‘Buy’ button. This ensures that your money is safe until you receive your order.

As a seller

1.  You must not ask buyers to pay you directly before they receive the item. 
   • • For orders that will be shipped or fulfilled digitally, buyers must pay you via the ‘Buy’ button. For meet-up orders, they must either pay you via the ‘Buy’ button, or at the meet-up.
     • You are only allowed to include delivery options in your listings if you enable the ‘Buy’ button (i.e. allow buyers to pay you through Carousell). You can either choose to ship via Carousell Official Delivery partners, or your own custom delivery methods.
     • You are not allowed to mention separate delivery or payment options in your listings.
2. If your listing does not have a ‘Buy’ button (whether because you didn’t enable it, or Buyer Protection is not available in the category), you are not allowed to include delivery options for your listing. You must only complete the deal via a meet-up.
3. Users may be required to provide additional information (through Singpass for verification purposes) under certain scenarios. These scenarios include (but are not limited to):
   • • Enhancing the safety of our users: This could involve situations where additional verification helps prevent fraud or scams.
     • Complying with laws and regulations: This includes anti-scams and anti-malicious cyber activities laws, anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing laws, and any other applicable laws.

Such information may be shared with government agencies upon request and in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Violation of above policies may lead to restriction in buying and selling activities on Carousell, including deactivation of accounts.
