Manage Your Advertising Preferences

Using the information described in our Privacy Policy, we may deliver personalised and/or targeted advertisements (each, a “Targeted Ad”) to you in the course of your use of our websites, mobile application and services (collectively, the “Services”) and/or though a variety of advertising networks and exchanges. Capitalised terms used herein and not otherwise defined herein shall have the meanings assigned to them in our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

From the “Settings” page of your Account, you may opt out of behavioural tracking and/or interest-based advertising through our Platforms. Your changes to such opt-out setting may take 24 hours to become effective. Please note that if you choose to “opt out”, we will not use information we have collected about you to deliver Targeted Ads, but it does not opt you out of being delivered advertisements. You will still receive generic, non-targeted advertisements.

In addition, opting out from behavioural tracking and/or interest-based advertising on one device or browser may apply to that specific device or browser only. To opt out of tracking on other devices or browsers, you must opt out from those other devices or browsers.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Targeted Ad or personalised and/or interest-based advertising?

Targeted advertising is a marketing strategy by which companies can use data, attributes, and/or digital technology (collectively, “Advertising Data”) to deliver advertisements tailored to the preferences, needs, and wants of their audience. Advertising Data can include demographic data such as gender and age, or  behavioural variables, such as browser history, purchase history, and other recent activity.

At Carousell, we endeavour to deliver advertisements that are tailored to your preferences and are useful to you. By allowing us to deliver Targeted Ads to you, you will be able to view advertisements that are more relevant to you.

How are advertisements targeted or personalised?

We show you advertisements based on a number of factors such as the following:

  • Your Account activity
    • Your activity on other devices and/or browsers
    • Tracking technologies whether used by third parties or CarousellInformation provided by you to us through the use of our Services

Why are there Carousell advertisements on other apps and websites?

In addition to advertisements on our Platforms, we may deliver advertisements on other platforms, websites and/or mobile applications if they are a member of the Carousell network. Through the Carousell network, advertisers may elect to serve their advertisements across certain platforms and devices.

What happens when I opt out?

By choosing to “opt out” through any of the above mentioned methods, you are not opting out of being delivered advertisements. You will still receive generic, non-targeted advertisements. You may still be served advertisements for other reasons, such as:

  • Your age, gender or location.
  • Personalised and/or targeted advertisements from other third parties and not delivered by Carousell through your mobile and/or web activities.
