Frequently asked questions
What is a Targeted Ad or personalised and/or interest-based advertising?
Targeted advertising is a marketing strategy by which companies can use data, attributes, and/or digital technology (collectively, “Advertising Data”) to deliver advertisements tailored to the preferences, needs, and wants of their audience. Advertising Data can include demographic data such as gender and age, or behavioural variables, such as browser history, purchase history, and other recent activity.
At Carousell, we endeavour to deliver advertisements that are tailored to your preferences and are useful to you. By allowing us to deliver Targeted Ads to you, you will be able to view advertisements that are more relevant to you.
How are advertisements targeted or personalised?
We show you advertisements based on a number of factors such as the following:
- Your Account activity
- Your activity on other devices and/or browsers
- Tracking technologies whether used by third parties or Carousell
- Information provided by you to us through the use of our Services
Why are there Carousell advertisements on other apps and websites?
In addition to advertisements on our Platforms, we may deliver advertisements on other platforms, websites and/or mobile applications if they are a member of the Carousell network. Through the Carousell network, advertisers may elect to serve their advertisements across certain platforms and devices.
What happens when I opt out?
By choosing to “opt out” through any of the above mentioned methods, you are not opting out of being delivered advertisements. You will still receive generic, non-targeted advertisements. You may still be served advertisements for other reasons, such as:
- Your age, gender or location.
- Personalised and/or targeted advertisements from other third parties and not delivered by Carousell through your mobile and/or web activities.
