What Is a Pre-Order Scam?
In a pre-order scam, sellers advertise items or tickets that are not yet available and ask buyers to pay a deposit or full amount in advance. Delivery is promised weeks or months later. After collecting payments from multiple buyers, the seller delays delivery repeatedly or becomes unresponsive. The items or tickets are never delivered.
Common Scenarios to Watch Out For
- Pokémon cards or collectibles offered as limited pre-orders
- K-pop merchandise or albums with long delivery timelines
- Concert tickets sold before or shortly after official ticket sales
- Requests for deposits followed by full payment before delivery
Warning Signs
- Long delivery promises with no verifiable proof of stock

- Repeated excuses, such as supplier or shipping delays
- Sellers asking for advance payments outside secure methods
